Salumbar has been its own district since August 2023, carved out of Udaipur along with Sarada, Lasadiya, Semari and Jhallara. Most of the people here live in the villages around the town rather than in it - and for a lot of them, "going for the monthly saman" means an afternoon, a bus, and carrying sacks home.
We have been on Sadar Bazar since 1961. The shop has not moved and the counter still works the way it always did. What is new is that you no longer have to come to it.
What you can order
Everything the shop sells is on the site: dal and rice, atta and oil, sabut and pisa masala, dry fruits, seeds, makhana, mukhwas. Each item shows the weight it comes in, because a hundred grams of kesar and a kilo of chana are two very different purchases.
If something you want is not listed, call the shop. Not everything on our shelves has made it onto the site yet, and we would rather tell you plainly than have you assume we do not stock it.
Where we deliver
Salumbar town and pincode 313027. That is the honest answer - we deliver our own orders, in our own vehicle, and that is as far as it reaches in a day.
The site asks for your pincode the moment you arrive, so you find this out before you fill a basket rather than at the end. If you are just outside the area, call us anyway. For a larger order we can sometimes work something out.
What it costs to have it brought
Nothing. Delivery inside Salumbar is free, and there is no charge added at checkout.
The one condition is a minimum order of Rs 200. Below that we cannot send a delivery out - the trip costs more than the order is worth, and we would rather say so than quietly add a fee.
When it arrives
- Order before 5 PM and it comes the same day.
- After 5 PM, it goes out the next working day.
- The shop is closed on Mondays. A Monday order, or a late Sunday one, arrives on Tuesday.
You will hear from us when the order is packed and again when it is on its way. You can also follow it yourself from Track Order, or from My Orders if you made an account.
Paying
Two ways, both without a card:
- Cash on delivery - pay at your door when the order arrives. Exact change helps, but is not required.
- Pay at the counter - order online, settle it the next time you are at the shop.
If nobody is home
Our delivery person calls the number on the order. If we cannot reach you, the order comes back to the shop and we try again the same day or the next working day. Nothing is left at a door - most of what we sell is food, and food should not sit outside.
Ordering for your parents, or for a house you are not at? Use Order for someone else at checkout, give us their name and number, and we will call them instead of you.
Making an account is optional
You can order without one. An account only saves you typing your address each time, and lets you see your past orders and invoices in one place. It takes a phone number and a six-digit passcode - nothing else is required. An email address is asked for but never compulsory; give one and your order confirmation and invoice come to you in writing.
If something is wrong
Check the order while our delivery person is still there if you can. Anything damaged, missing or not what you asked for - tell us then, or call within the day. We will replace it or refund it. That is not a policy written to be argued with; it is a shop on Sadar Bazar that has to see you again next month.
The shop is on +91 86966 30712. For most things, calling is faster than typing.
